The resent weather has been difficult to adjust to. Even the weatherman has been surprised by the quick changes. First is cool, then it's hot. The winds don't blow, then they blow at gale force. But through it all the fishing has been pretty good with a many species.

On a recent trips my anglers have scored on redfish, snook, small tarpon, seatrout and the ever present jacks. As a matter of fact the jacks have added a certain fun quotient to the trips. Some of them have been in the 10-pound range and that makes for screaming drags!

We've been using mostly pilchards and occasionally live shrimp when the pilchards aren't cooperating. A recent outing included a couple of keeper redfish, three undersized snook, four seatrout and about 15 jacks. It made for nice busy morning on Estero Bay.

Spring has sprung and almost passed us by. Now is the time to book a trip. The seasonal "snowbirds" are headed home and spring break is over. There's lots of spots to fish with very little boat traffic.
