Good Trout Fishing

Capt. Gary Clark
February 15, 2011
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 2/13/2011

Even though our water and air temperatures have been bouncing up and down we are in a good trend that appears to be a break in the coldfront pattern. Sea Trout fishing has remained good even on the cooler days. Cooler water and lower tides means find the potholes that have been holding fish in weeks that they were in on the last cold spell.

We are in a pattern of a week of marginal weather followed by warm days that are about normal for this time of year. When the air temperatures warm up the fish start moving around in search of food, but you can count on finding them in the deeper holes when it cools down.

Best bets are a white redfish magic on a jig head presented slowly near the bottom, also a white pompano jig either casted and retreved slowly or whith a tip of shrimp under a popping cork. Don"t forget about the old reliable live shrimp under a popping cork.

We have also had countless ladyfish that make good filler for cooler mornings. There was a bit of a slowdown on redfish but with higher tides and warmer conditions they will be back. I am also seeing winter critters like whiteing and silver trout with a few flounder in the mix.

The upcomming week looks great air mis 70"s to 80 and riseing water temps. Get out and fish! I still have a couple of openings.
