3 Wisconsin Charters: (2 Excellent and 1 Ugly-Windy)

Capt. John GiddyUp-Bunch
December 29, 2008
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The newspaper said "East to South East Winds to 10 occasional 15KTS." The National Weather Service said the same thing. All the hot babes on the local stations said the same thing (Capt GiddyUp does not listen or look at Dudes when there are hot babes talking about converging fronts, periods of wetness, and what will blow plus how hard. Dude, if you ain't the same way something is wrong..Get a life!) Anyway, on the "1 Bust" a Dad and son were fishing with me (great kid from the Univ of Denver) and we tried trolling Big Lip Lures off the rocky ledges around Captiva. Water color was OK. Water temps were perfect. Outgoing Tide was a can't miss. WIND? Try 25-30 blowin' harder than a new hire at the Mustang Ranch in Winnemucker, Nevada (and yes, I have been there and proud of it cause I don't lie and I'm no goodie 2 shoes) Had a great actually. It was nice to have a cooperation, understanding, and someone call you "Honey"

Winds were just impossible so we retreated "inside" to one of my favorite oyster bars. Monster Trout hang around this bar and are always willing to bite. Guess what. Where we had to throw, based on the tide movement, was directing into the wind. Dad and his son probably experienced one of the worst weather days for wind all year. The Dad wrote me a check at the end of the charter and I was shocked there was ink in the pen. It didn't make me feel very good but I burned +20 Gallons of gas trying to find fish for them.

Two days later, 10-20MPH winds were forecast and all day it was 5-8MPH. Doing the math, the forecast is off by 50% but it is still worth looking at the Weather Babes. (Check out Sabrina Fein on Fox/Cape Coral and you tell me) Anyway, Sabrina had the winds pegged perfect and we totally busted the Gag Grouper to 20LBS and limits for 3 anglers. Only 1 lure was working and this lure is becoming LEGEND in SW FL. The Yo-Zuri DD in the color CL or Clown. I troll this lure INSHORE along bridge fenders and the "ditch" from C-Span to the Sanibel Pier" and catch "shorts" and Keeper GAGS CONSISTANTLY. Anyway, nothing was working but The Clown. If you think I am whistling dixie about this lure, contact Capt David Dean of Top Dog Charters and ask him (239-634-2433). He is a good Captain and when I first showed him the Yo-Zuri Clown it blew his mind. "You ain't never met a Cracker quite like this Cracker" is right on his boat (decal).... He is a great guy to fish with if i'm busy.

3rd Wisconsin Charter was yesterday. All conditions were perfect except the tide was INCOMING not OUTGOING. This is a HUGE "Except"...What the hell, we would give it a shot. Trolling down tide at a true ground speed of 5.5KTS we slaughtered the grouper again with The Clown plus using only 40LB leader (The Clown will not dive as deep as other lures so we had to fish Power Pro and thin leader (40 vs 60 of 80). 50% of our Keeper hits came when the boat went to "Neutral" and the lures were allowed to rise to the surface. I suggest reading that again. Limits for all (4) and I went out after the trip and limited myself. GiddyUp!

PS: I fish with a gorgeous Hollywood Movie Star on Tue. My goal (like always) is to catch limits, lsiten to her scream, and not get caught looking. It would BLOW YOUR MIND IF I DISCLOSED HER NAME. I'm bustin to tell ya but I can't. I'm sooo looking frwd to the beautiful views.
