Wreck Fishing Off the Beaches!

Capt. Scott Theis
July 22, 2012
Fort Myers - Saltwater Fishing Report

The wreck fishing is producing due to all the bait that is passing through with the tides. There's been a lot of different species being caught (grouper, snapper, cobia, snook, redfish, mackeral and trout). Fish the early morning and late afternoon tides. The bite is slow during the mid day. The choice of bait is thread herring and pinfish. A freeline thread herring using 40# flourocarbon leader works best for the snook, trout and mackeral. Most of these snook are slot size so PLEASE handle with care. A pinfish with a 1/2-1oz lead and a 4/0 circle hook works for grouper and redfish. Bring some chum for the snappers and use a small chunk of herring with 20# flouro and a 2/0 circle hook.

The back bay fishing is slow due to the warm water(88 degrees). Get out there early morning and late afternoon. Cut mullet or herring is the best bait for the redfish and jacks. Lower tides fish the edges of flats and higher tides fish the mangroves.

I specialize in light tackle saltwater fishing in the pristine backbays and nearshore wrecks of Southwest Florida. Whether we're targeting snook, redfish, or trout in the backbays or cobia, permit, shark, grouper, or tarpon on the wrecks. Whether you're a novice or an expert angler, i will take great pride sharing my knowledge and insight to provide my anglers with an enjoyable experience. Kids are always welcomed.
