Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
May 1, 2008
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

MAY 1, 2008

INSHORE - Here it is May and we are still having March winds almost every day! Hopefully the last front that came through will be the last one. Most of the anglers reported that the action was slow this week even when the wind laid down some. I did get reports of a few trout being caught around Bear Point at first light and they were taking greenie's and small pinfish fished under a popping cork. Earlier this week we did spot a small school of redfish up around the back side of Snapper Cut but they would not eat. The snook fishing has been about the only bite that has been steady. Most of the fish that were caught came form the lighted docks along the Ft. Pierce Inlet and they were caught on live baits, For the bottom fishermen there has only been a handful of small snapper, under size grouper and a few sheepshead reported and they were all caught off of the catwalks of the local bridges and also along the channel edges on a small live shrimp.

OFFSHORE - There is still a good dolphin action in 115 to 135 feet of water if you don't mind the rough seas -- which it has been all week. The bigger boats are reporting dolphin to 40 pounds and quite a few sailfish. Also, in that same depth they have had wahoo in the 20 pound range and all of the fish are taking ballyhoo. I talked to several of the S.K.A. anglers fishing the tournament this weekend and they all reported kings in 60 to 90 feet of water but the fish have been scattered. Try a ribbonfish or a mullet as blue runners have been hard to find. The snapper and grouper bite has been tough -- again due to the sea conditions.

TEEN ANGLERS - This Sunday -- May 4th is the fish off for the Teen Angler of the Year. The Teen's will meet at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce at 6:30am for their boat assignments. The lucky Teen's that will compete are David Brasher, Kalib Guttler, Helen Kinchen, Chris Matthy, Tyler Moyher, Dillon Roberts-Louira, Tyler Serio and Shane Surrency. Good luck to all of you!

Good luck to all the local S.K.A. boats fishing this weekend in Jensen Beach.
