Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
December 3, 2009
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

DECEMBER 3, 2009

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good this week even with the windy conditions. There has been plenty of action from the Ft. Pierce Inlet back into the Turning Basin with the spanish mackerel, jacks and bluefish being caught on anything from jigs to cut bait. There has also been a good flounder bite coming from the sandy spots along the Ft. Pierce Inlet. A live shrimp on a Trol-rite hook has been hard to beat. The snook fishing is still strong around the docks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet as well as around the local bridges. Most of the fish were taking live baits. Along the channel edges of the Intercoastal the bottom fishing bite has been steady for snapper, grouper, black drum and croakers. All of these fish have been taking a live shrimp.

OFFSHORE - The ocean conditions have been okay one day and not so good the next but over the weekend there was a good sailfish bite to the north of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The bite started in about 100 feet of water. Try a live bait or troll a ballyhoo. There were a good number of small dolphin reported in as close as 80 feet of water. Most of the dolphin reported were under 20 pounds. If it is kingfish you are looking for then you need to try in 60 to 80 feet of water and use a live blue runner. There has been plenty of action along the beaches from the spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks. They are hitting just about anything shinny.

JUNIOR TEEN ANGLERS - This Saturday -- December 5th will be the regular scheduled from shore fishing tournament for the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Junior Teen Anglers. They will meet at Harbour Pointe Park at 9am and fish until 11am. If you would like more info on Junior Teen Anglers for the 5 to 11 age group or on Teen Anglers for the 12 to 18 age group -- just go to the web at www.teenanglers.org

BRAGGING BOARD - Congrats go out to our granddaughter -- Savannah Ward -- age 9 for getting a 4 point buck last Saturday morning while hunting with her dad -- Rob Ward. Robert Kinchen Jr. caught and released his 1st redfish last week. He was using live shrimp and fishing under a small dock to the south in the river.
