Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
June 18, 2011
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

JUNE 18, 2011

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has slowed some with the full moon this past week but, hopefully things will get back to normal next week. The reports I have been getting are all about the trout in 2 to 4 feet of water -- just off the grass flats. The trout have been taking pilchards, pigfish or a shrimp. There is still a good redfish bite along the docks of South Indian River Drive. The only thing is you will have to work hard to get one. I did get a couple of reports of tripletail coming from south of the power lines. They were also taking a live shrimp and fish the channel markers. There were a few nice flounder caught at the South Jetty and they too were taking live shrimp.

OFFSHORE - The dolphin bite has slowed down quite a bit compared to last week. There are still scattered dolphin in 50 to 200 feet of water and they are taking ballyhoo - both naked and skirted with a green/yellow skirt. Look for the kingfish in 30 to 60 feet of water and they are taking live baits. I had a good number of reports about sailfish free jumping but not too many hook ups. The bottom fishing has been steady over the reefs and wrecks for anglers using both live and cut baits.

JUNIOR TEEN ANGLERS - The last from shore fishing tournament of the school year for the Treasure Coast Chapter of Junior Teen Anglers was held on Saturday - June 4th. There was a wide variety of fish caught and released but flounder was the fish of the day. Each Junior that fished got a bait bucket that was donated by Pat & Gwen and it had items donated by MirroLure, Gulfstream Lures, Teen Anglers and Capt. Joe's Bait & Tackle.

In the 5 to 8 age group
1st place - Trevor Loth - age 7
2nd place - Conner Karns - age 7
3rd place - Westleigh Karns - age 6

In the 9 to 11 age group
1st place - Jacob Hamson - age 11
2nd place - Andrew Evans - age 10
3rd place - Savannah Ward - age 11

Trevor Walk got biggest fish of the tournament trophy with a 3lb 4oz. jack. He also got a $10 gift card donated by Pat & Gwen and it was for the Fishing Center. If you have a child that would like to fish with Junior Teen Anglers you can call 772-201-5773 for more info or go to the website at www.teenanglers.org

A special THANK YOU to Jeremy Wade and the film crew of River Monsters for taking the time to sign autographs and talk with the guest at the Dockside Inn and we hope they stay here next time they are in town. They caught and released a good number of monster fish and the show will air next April.

If you have a catch to report you can e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 772-201-5770. You can also reach me on the web at www.captjoeward.com
