Ft. Pierce Inshore - Offshore Report

Capt. Joe Ward
February 16, 2012
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - Look for the fishing to be good if the weather stays nice. The snook bite should be good at places like the Ft. Pierce Inlet and around the local bridges. Try using a live baits such as a pinfish, pigfish, mullet or a select shrimp. You can also troll bug plugs in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and around the bridges. The trout and redfish bite should also remain good around the deeper edges of the flats and around the mangroves. Try a live shrimp as your first choice then soft plastic baits and then try a spoon. The bottom fishing for sheepshead, black drum and snapper should be good around any structure along the Intercoastal and around the local bridges. There should also be plenty of bluefish and pompano in the surf.

OFFSHORE - If the weather stays nice and the sea conditions are good you can look for a good cobia bite when fishing over the reefs and wrecks. There should be plenty of kingfish in 40 to 70 feet of water for anglers trolling spoons and strip baits. The bottom fishing for the snapper and grouper should also be good around the full moon when fishing over the reefs and wrecks with both live and cut baits. The night fishing should be better for the snapper. Plenty of spanish mackerel and bluefish at the mouth of the Ft. Pierce Inlet.
