Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
December 8, 2000
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing has been good all week for snook both at night and in the day. Snapper, sheephead and sandperch have really been feeding most of the day and on Wednesday the croakes turned on with plenty to go around. If you like pompano, then get your sandfleas ready because they are starting to make a showing here in a big way.

SNOOK - Most of the snook have been caught from sunrise to sundown in the Turning Basin and around the North bridge. It still looks like finger mullet are the number one bait to use.

SANDPERCH - The sandperch are coming off the South bridge catwalk by the bucket full. All you need is a #6 long shank hook, 1 oz. lead and a pack of shrimp and you are set.

SNAPPER & SHEEPSHEAD - All you have to do is find any structure along the channel edge or around the bridges and drop a live shrimp down. Snapper to 3 pounds have been reported this week and the sheephead run has started.

CROAKERS - On Wednesday the croakers turned on around the Rock Pile to the South in the river. Most of these fish were caught on fresh dead shrimp.

POMPANO - It's that time of the year when the pompano come inshore. They seems to like 3 to 5 feet of water and a moving tide.

Until next week, Good fishing.
