Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
December 10, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The snook have been feeding good for most of the week even with all the wind that we've had. Starting on Wednesday, the best time for snook has been at the tide change in the afternoon and around the area bridges. The Inlet has been giving up a few snook but not as many as the bridges. Live bait has been the way to go at these locations. If you are fishing the late night tide change at the bridges, try a feather or a big plug. These have been producing the most fish at night.

REMEMBER - Snook season closes on December 15th at midnight.

Fishing for catch and release trout has been the hardest with the NE winds which leave only the East side of the river to fish. Even with that the trout bite has been slow after about 8:00am. I did get a few reports of trout being caught on Monday and Tuesday around the Round Island area when fishing with live shrimp.

There are still plenty of Spanish mackerel and jacks in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and along the Intercoastal. Try trolling a small spoon for these fish.

Snapper and sheepshead are still the main action on the catwalks of the South Bridge in Ft. Pierce. Live shrimp has been the way to go to land these fish.

Until next week, good fishing.
