Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
December 23, 2001
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing has been good most of the week even with the closing of snook season. There have been plenty of reports of catch and release snook around the local bridges in Ft. Pierce and the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Most of the snook have been caught on live pigfish or pinfish.

Trout season is also closed until Junuary 1st but these fish are more active at first light and are feeding best on live shrimp. Remember to practice catch and release.

Your best bet will be the snapper, sheepshead and sandperch which are at the local bridges now. Live shrimp has been the bait of choice for these fish.

If you like catching Spanish mackerel and big jacks then you will want to try the Inlet or the channel edges. The channel edges to the south of the South Bridge are full of these fish and a live finger mullet will do the trick.

The grouper bite is keeping anglers busy when they are fishing to the north of the North Bridge in Ft. Pierce. Try slow trolling a big orange or yellow plug for the best results. I had reports of grouper to 12 pounds being caught in this area.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable holiday and a safe New Year.

Until next week, Merry Christmas!

Capt. Joe Ward
