Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
August 19, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

The inshore fishing for trout and snapper has remained steady this past week with most of the action going to the snapper. The snapper are still along the channel edges and the bite has been strong from morning until night. A live shrimp and a trol-rite hook has been the way to go.

The trout have been the most active in the early morning right at first light up until about 8:00am. Use a topwater bait until then and switch to a live shrimp and a popping cork after about 8:00am.

The tarpon are still hanging around the mouth of the Ft. Pierce Inlet but are making their way onto the flats. There have been a few brought to the boat in the 55 to 75 pound range and a neighbor of mine had one that went about 100 pounds.

The snook are still here and are stacked up along the docks. There has been a lot up in Taylor Creek. Remember that snook season re-opens on Sept. 1st. If you do catch a snook, handle it as little as possible and let him go.

I would like to say CONGRATS to my son, Rob Ward, for getting his Captain's license. Rob took the class and passed his test on Friday. Now we will have to Captains to in the family and will be able to offer you more charter dates.

Until next week, keep fishing.
