Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
October 2, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

With all the strong southeast wind this week most of the inshore action has been in two places, north of the North Bridge and the east side of the river and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet.

The trout bite has been hot during the early morning hours with just about any topwater baits you could throw at them in 3 to 5 feet of water. There was two tricks to this, find a spot out of the wind and some clear water.

There have also been a good number of redfish reported around the Round Island area. These fish have been very shallow and feeding on gold spoons.

Snook fishing has been steady at night around the local bridges when using live baits like mullet, pigfish or a croaker. Now for the angler using a big Flair Hawk or a red and white plug they have also been catching their share of snook.

The sheepshead and snapper bite along the channel edges continue to be about the best thing going. A live shrimp has been hard to beat for these fish.

The Spanish mackerel have been around and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet along with some big tarpon and jacks.

Until next week, stay out of the wind.
