Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
December 26, 2002
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore fishing was good before the latest front came through on Wednesday. Most of the catch and release trout action has been on the flats south of the South Bridge and on the east side of the river. The bite started at Pete Stone Creek and went all the way south to the power lines at the Power Plant. Try using a live shrimp or a light colored soft plastic bait.

There has been a good pompano bite on the west side of the river when you were using sandfleas and fishing on the high tide. The croakers are starting to show up in schools around the local bridges and at Jenning's Cove.

There are still plenty of snapper and sheepshead as well as black drums around the bridges in Ft. Pierce. And the grouper are starting to show up along the channel edges to the north of the North Bridge. I had reports of several nice grouper to 12 pounds.

If you want to have a little fun, then you need to fish in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. There are plenty of Spanish mackerel, bluefish and big jacks. Try using a small silver spoon.

Hope you have a safe and Happy New Year!
