Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report
Inshore fishing for snook has not been red hot. Most of the snook that were caught were under sized and on the skinny side but there was a few nice sized one caught. I managed to get one that was 15 pounds but he was skinny. Try the Turning Basin on the out going tide using live baits or around the bridges and use a Flair Hawk.
The trout bite has been a little better with the water starting to warm up but the fish are still in deeper water, 4 to 6 feet. The best place has been from Big Mud Creek south to the county line. The bait that has caught the most fish has been live shrimp.
As most of you know the area between the North and South Bridges in Ft. Pierce is holding massive amount of weakfish, bluefish and Spanish mackerel as well as a few under sized pompano. Live shrimp, dead shrimp, spoons and cut bait have all worked to land these fish.
Last Saturday, Feb. 1st, was the first tournament of the new year for the Teen Anglers. We had a great turn out and most of the Teens caught fish. 5th place went to Walter Mitchell of Westwood High School, 4th place was Taylor Purcell also of Westwood, 3rd went to Jacob York of Forest Grove Middle School, 2nd place went to Joshua Hayman of Lincoln Park Academy and 1st place and biggest fish went to William Crittenden also of Lincoln Park. The Teens were awarded trophies for their catches. If you would like more info on becoming a Teen Angler go to the web at www.teenanglers.org
Until next week, good fishing.
