Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
October 13, 2004
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 14, 2004

INSHORE - Still not the best conditions for fishing with the dirty water, wind and rain but there are still some fish being caught around the Treasure Coast area. The best action seems to be the snook that are around the local spillways. Anglers using a topwater bait or a live mullet have seen the most action.

The trout action has picked up some this week with good reports coming from the Big Mud and Little Mud Creek area as well as the Jensen Beach Causeway. The bite has been an early morning one and a D.O.A. glow shrimp has been hard to beat. Remember to fish the D.O.A. shrimp slowly and in 3 to 5 feet of water.

I did get good reports of snapper coming from around the area bridges and along the channel edges to the north of Harbor Branch. Just find some structure and fish with live shrimp.

Do in the Stuart area there has been some tripletail reported along the channel edges during the heat of the day. Live shrimp has been the way to go. There has also been a good number of black drum, sheepshead and a few snook around the bridges in Martin County.

OFFSHORE - Not a lot to report but the mullet are all over the beaches and that means plenty of jacks, cuda's and sharks. You may even find a kingfish or a cobia hanging around.

The water out deeper is still dirty and not too much action. Some small dolphin were reported in about 125 feet of water and a small wahoo or two in about the same area.

Kingfish have been scattered up and down the Treasure Coast with most of the fish coming from the Northeast Grounds. The anglers who are trolling spoons and strip baits are getting the fish.

Bottom fishing has also been slow but on Monday there were some snapper and cobia caught around the Six Mile Reef out of the St. Lucie Inlet. Hopefully the water will be better for the weekend.
