Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
December 1, 2004
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

December 2, 2004

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good with plenty of catch and release trout being reported coming from around the Mooring Flats, Harbor Branch and Queen's Cove areas. The bite has been the best on the full high tide. Live shrimp have been the bait of choice.

The snook action has been good at times and slow the rest of the time. Try the area bridges from Vero Beach south to the Stuart area at night. Live baits or a big feather like a Flair Hawk have been working the best. Also, a big plug trolled around the bridges at night has produced some keeper fish. During the day the Inlets on the out going tide have been productive when using live baits. A lot of smaller snook are coming from the Turning Basin in Ft. Pierce when using live shrimp.

The snapper and sheepshead are still going strong along the channel edges and around the local bridges of the Treasure Coast. Small live shrimp have been the best bait to use. The croakers, weakfish and spanish mackerel are moving into the river with good catches being reported from Ft. Pierce to Stuart. The redfish bite has slowed a little but there are still a lot of fish being reported around the dock lines along the St. Lucie Village area.

The Twenty-five Cent, Jensen Beach and Stuart bridges are all producing good catches of black drum, croakers, sheepshead and a lot of under sized snapper. There has also been a few nice size flounder being reported to the south of the South Bridge in Ft. Pierce.

OFFSHORE - There is still not a lot of action offshore. There were a handful of sailfish releases reported coming from the north of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in about 125 feet of water. Several releases were reported coming from 130 feet of water straight out of the St. Lucie Inlet on Saturday.

There were reports of bonita just about everywhere anyone fished offshore. Only a handful of smaller dolphin were reported. The biggest one was 12 pounds. I did get a few reports about wahoo being caught just south of the St. Lucie Inlet in 160 feet of water.

Bottom fishing has been about the best thing happening with snapper to 10 pounds and grouper to 16 pounds being reported in 50 to 95 feet of water.

Plenty of spanish mackerel and bluefish are cruising the beaches and hitting just about anything you throw at them.

TEEN ANGLERS - The local chapter of the National Teen Anglers will have an inshore fishing tournament this Sunday at 6:45am at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. If you would like more info on Teen Anglers you can go to the website at www.teenanglers.com or www.teenanglers.org
