Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 10, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Vero Tackle & Marina reported that fishing the docks and bridges for snapper and sheepshead. The trout have been active when the sun comes out and look for redfish up close to the shore. There has also been some snook action around the docks for anglers using live shrimp.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The Fishing Center of St. Lucie reports plenty of black drum around the bridges as well as sheepshead, sandperch, bluefish and jacks. Snook fishing has been good around the Turning Basin and bridges at night and also off the South Jetty during the day. During the day most of the fish have been caught on live shrimp. There has been a few cobia reported offshore as well as kingfish in about 80 feet of water. Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper remains steady in 90 to 135 feet of water. Also a couple of sailfish were caught to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet.

MARTIN COUNTY - Look for trout action along the docks to the north of the Jensen Beach Causeway. There has been some snook around the local bridges. The spanish mackerel have slowed down around the St. Lucie Inlet but there are still plenty of sheepshead, snapper and jacks to keep you busy. Offshore in 30 to 90 feet of water there are a lot of snapper and other bottom fish. Also, quite a few cobia were reported.

OKEECHOBEE - Speck fishing remains good in the Kissimmee River when using live minnows. Also try the Big Lake outside the River. Bass fishing around the Horse Shoe Bas has been producing some big bass on live shiners.

TEEN ANGLERS - The next monthly inshore fishing tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers will be Sunday, March 20 at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. Teens should be there and ready to fish by 6:45am. Weigh-in will be at noon. For more info on Teen Anglers go to the web at www.teenanglers.com

BRAGGING BOARD - Wayne Wilson caught 2 nice slot sized snook while fishing at night in Ft. Pierce. Carroll Quinby caught a 15 pound snook while along the docks in Ft. Pierce. Henry Dillon caught 2 trout to 6 & 1/2 pounds while fishing at the Moorings in Vero Beach. Sam Pederson caught 3 black drum to 10 pounds while fishing around a bridge in Ft. Pierce.
