Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 10, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - The catch and release snook action has been very good around the Sebastian Inlet. Along with the snook there has been a steady catch of redfish. The trout action has been good all over the flats with most of the fish around 2 pounds. There were mangrove snapper reported along the channel edges with the fish going to 2 pounds.

Offshore the bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has been good in 95 to 130 feet of water out of the Sebastian Inlet. There were mixed reports of kingfish and dolphin in that same area.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The trout bite has been really good when using top water baits early in the morning and changing to pigfish for the rest of the day. A few tarpon were reported around the Ft. Pierce Inlet and around Big Mud Creek. The snapper and sheepshead are along the channel edges with plenty of blowfish. The catch and release snook action has slowed way down in the Turning Basin and around the bridges.

Offshore the dolphin have slowed down and moved out to the deeper water. The best action has been in 180 to 240 feet of water. There are still some kings in the 70 to 90 foot range. The snapper and grouper have been very active around the Northeast Grounds.

MARTIN COUNTY - There have been good reports of black drum, snapper and sheepshead around the local bridges. There are still some catch and release snook around the spillways. Look for trout and redfish around the Middle Cove area.

Offshore there are still quite a few sailfish being released. The dolphin bite has been good out of the St. Lucie Inlet along with a good number of kingfish and a few wahoo. The best depth has been between 200 and 300 feet of water.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - A few big bass were reported around Harney Pond and at the Monkey Box. The bream are being caught in good number when using crickets.
