Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 29, 2005
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - The trout action has been good early in the morning when using top water baits and switching to pigfish after about 8:00am. Still plenty of snapper around the local bridges. The Sebastian Inlet has been good for the catch and release snook and also over the slot sized redfish. Offshore the bottom fishing has been producing more fish than trolling. Try in the 60 to 120 feet of water over the reefs and wrecks. Good reports of grouper, snapper and also plenty of cuda's.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Inshore the fishing for catch and release snook has been good on the flats around Ft. Pierce and at Taylor Creek. Live mullet has been hard to beat. The trout have been feeding early in the morning and early evening. Top water baits or live pigfish have been the way to go. The snapper along the channel edges have been feeding good as long as the water is moving. Still a few tarpon around Big Mud Creek and the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Offshore the dolphin fishing has been slow but, the fish that were reported were in the 12 to 30 pound range. Also, a few big cobia are still around. The kingfish have been scattered from 15 to 80 feet of water. Just look for the bait. The bottom fishing remains good for snapper, grouper and black sea bass.
MARTIN COUNTY - The inshore fishing is still tough due to the water conditions but, there were some reports coming from the North around the Jensen Beach Causeway to the power lines -- look for trout on the West side of the river in 2 to 3 feet of water, as well as some catch and release snook. Bottom fishing around the bridges has been steady for sheepshead, croakers and snapper. Still a few reports of pompano and big jacks around the St. Lucie Inlet. Offshore there is not much going on -- a few kingfish were reported and a handful of scattered dolphin. I did get reports of good bottom fishing for snapper, grouper and other reef fish around the Six and Eight Mile Reefs.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - The bass fishing has been good in most area's early in the morning when using artificial baits and change to live shiners by mid morning. Bream fishing is also good around pipes that flowing water into the canals and rivers. Try using a cricket or a worm.
