Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 1, 2006
INSHORE - The dirty water has slowed the fishing down some but the die hard anglers are still catching their share of fish. Look for plenty of sheepshead around just about any structure -- like a dock, the bridges or also along the channel edges. The croakers and weakfish are still scattered through out Jennings's Cove and the Sandpit -- you just have to be there when they decide to feed. As the water clears the trout and redfish bite should improve. There has been decent reports about fish along the dock lines along south Indian River Dr. The snook action remains a little on the slow side but, anglers throwing Flair Hawks at night around the bridges in Ft. Pierce are reporting good catches.
OFFSHORE - Most of the good reports are coming from anglers fishing the bottom for snapper and grouper in deep water and sheepshead, weakfish and croakers coming from the shallow reefs. I did have several cobia reported in about 90 feet of water and a handful of dolphin in about 200 feet of water. The kingfish are also scattered from 60 to 90 feet of water and to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. There were reports of some over the slot size snook down at the Boils. The only problem was that you had to get past all the big jacks first. Looks like we will have better conditions this next week.
TEEN ANGLERS - The next monthly inshore fishing tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers will be held on March 12th at 6:45am at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. After canceling the January and February tournaments because of the weather I am sure the teen's are ready to fish.
