Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
October 19, 2006
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

OCTOBER 19, 2006

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been good for some anglers and slow for others. I have been getting reports of some nice trout early in the morning up around the Moorings Flats to the North and finger mullet has been the bait to use. Also, to the South the bite has been from Pete Stone Creek to Blind Creek. Most of the redfish reported are coming form the Round Island and Queen's Cover area. There are still plenty of snapper along the channel edges and they are feeding on greenies or a live shrimp. The snook fishing remains a little on the slow side but a few fish are being caught around the North Bridge at night and live mullet has been the bait to use. Also, you will want to fish the Ft. Pierce Inlet on the falling tide during the day and use a live bait like a mullet, croaker or a pinfish. I have been getting reports about some nice size black drum and flounder around the Ft. Pierce Inlet and both the North and South Bridges in Ft. Pierce. Live shrimp has been the bait of choice.

OFFSHORE - The sea conditions have finally calmed down and the reports are starting to come in. Look for the kings in 60 to 90 feet of water around the Offshore Bar. The dolphin have been scattered to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in 120 to 160 feet of water. Also, some sailfish have been reported in that same area and were caught on ballyhoo or a split tail mullet. The bottom fishing for snapper, seabass and croakers has been good. The best spots have been at the Northeast Grounds. Look for action along the beaches for jacks, tarpon, snook, spanish mackerel and bluefish which will be following the big schools of mullet.

TEEN ANGLERS - The next inshore fishing tournament of the local chapter of Teen Anglers will be held this Sunday, October 22nd at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. If you would like more info on teen anglers just go to the web at www.teenanglers.org
