Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
March 22, 2007
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

MARCH 22, 2007

INSHORE - This has been a good week to do maintenance on the boat and your fishing equipment. With the strong east and northeast winds at 20 to 30mph it has made fishing tough. If you were one of the boats like me that tried on several days this week to fish you were rewarded with a steady trout bite. You needed to fish around the spoil islands where you could get out of the wind. The trout were taking soft plastic baits or a live shrimp. I did have reports of snapper and sheepshead around the structure along the Intercoastal. A good bite from the sandperch, sheepshead and black drum for the anglers fishing from the local bridges. A small live shrimp was the bait of choice. There has been a decent bluefish and spanish mackerel bite if you were drifting the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The snook fishing has been steady at night when you were fishing around the local bridges. The best bite has been on a feather or a large live shrimp.

OFFSHORE - There is not much to report about the offshore fishing due to the high winds and rough seas this week. On the nicer days the boats that did go out reported scattered dolphin in 120 feet of water and a few kings in 70 to 90 feet of water. A few cobia were popping up in 50 to 60 feet of water. Along the beaches there has been plenty of spanish mackerel and bluefish to keep you busy.

TEEN ANGLERS - Due to the wind the inshore tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers was rescheduled. The tournament will take place this Sunday -- March 25th at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. If you would like to volunteer to take a Teen fishing just go to the website at www.teenaglers.org

JUNIOR TEEN ANGLERS - The next from shore fishing tournament for Junior Teen Anglers will be held on April 7th at Harbour Pointe Park in Ft. Pierce. The Junior Teens will fish from 9am until 11am and then we will award trophies for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for the 5 to 8 age group and also the 9 to 11 age group.
