Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - The inshore fishing has picked up some since the wind has calmed down some. The trout bite has picked up at Round Island, Harbor Branch to the north in the river and down around the Midway Road area to the south. The trout bite has been fairly good up until about 8am. There has been plenty of black drum and sheepshead reported around the power lines to the south. The redfish bite continues to be steady from Queen's Cove to Jack Island. Still a few reports of snook around the North Bridge and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet after dark and live mullet seems to be the top bait right now.
OFFSHORE - Now that the sea's have clamed down some the kingfish bite is in 65 to 90 feet of water with most of the fish being under 25 pounds. The big problem is that no one can find any blue runners. You can use a ribbonfish, mullet or a bluefish with good results. The dolphin were everywhere on Thursday and no where to be found on Friday. The reports were of fish from 65 feet of water out to 400 feet. Most of the fish were under 30 pounds. There were a few sailfish reported to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in 120 feet of water. There were a few cobia reported in 50 foot of water on Thursday and Friday. And, as the water clears up the snapper bite will get better and better over the reefs and wrecks. A good number of spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks along the beaches.
TEEN ANGLERS - Last Sunday was the final tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers. The top five middle and high school Teen Anglers were fishing for the honor of Teen Angler of the Year. After all the fish were weighed in the Teen Angler with the most points for this school year was Jordan Martinez of Westwood High. In second place was R.J. Swinford and third was Kalib Guettler -- they also attend Westwood High. Our new tournament season will start in August when the new school year starts. I would like to thank all the volunteers for taking the time to take these Teen's fishing.
