Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
October 4, 2007
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

October 4, 2007

INSHORE - The inshore fishing was not too bad on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The wind was still a factor but not as much as last weekend. But, the water color is still bad with all the fresh water coming from Taylor Creek. And, speaking of Taylor Creek I have been getting reports of some slot size snook coming from around the spillway. They are being caught on a chartreuse Bomber lure. Also, a few snook were reported around the bridges and in the Ft. Pierce Inlet after dark and they were taking a live mullet. The trout fishing has been really slow again due to the dirty water. The only reports I have this week are from way south in the river -- around the Middle Cove area down to the Jensen Beach Causeway. There has been a small area of clear water down that way on the high tide. Try using a D.O.A. Shrimp in the root beer color and fish it slow. The only redfish reported this week were caught in the Ft. Pierce Inlet and most of the fish were over the slot. The redfish were caught on live baits by the anglers fishing for snook. We are still catching some nice size mangrove snapper along the channel edges of the Intercoastal. Mixed in with the snapper are short muttons, black drum and sheepshead. Up on the flats around the bait schools you can expect to catch jacks, ladyfish and even a snook or two. On Thursday my charter had a chance to catch a couple of nice size tripletail. We were fishing to the south of the power lines and had 6 fish to the boat and boated 2. They also caught a nice size flounder, 2 sheepshead, a bunch of short muttons and a 5 pound jack. We were using a live shrimp and a trol-rite hook.

OFFSHORE - Not too much to say about the offshore fishing. With all the wind and the rain the seas have been as high as 9.4 feet. I did see a few boats try to go out last Saturday but they were all back inside with 20 to 45 minutes. Hopefully the weather man will be wrong for this weekend and the wind will not be as bad as it was last weekend and the first part of the week.

TEEN ANGLERS - The monthly inshore fishing tournament for the local chapter of Teen Anglers was canceled and rescheduled again for this coming Sunday -- October 7th. Keep your fingers crossed and maybe we can get the tournament in before the winds get too bad.

JUNIOR TEEN ANGLERS - The next from shore fishing tournament for the Junior Teen Anglers will be held on Saturday -- October 13th at Harbour Pointe Park in Ft. Pierce. The Junior Teens will fish from 9am until 11am and then we will award trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 5 to 8 age group and also in the 9 to 11 age group. If you would like more info on Teen Anglers or Junior Teen Anglers you can go to the web at www.teenaglers.org or you can call 772-201-5773.
