Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

INSHORE - With tropical storm Noel sitting offshore to the south of us all week and the high pressure to the north it has made the winds just too much for most boaters including me. But, I did drive around to some of the local spots and saw that anglers could fish from land and those that did had some decent catches. With Taylor Creek flowing there has been plenty of snook and small tarpon action if you were there at the right time -- which seemed to have no pattern to it and also if you didn't mind getting wet. One of the better baits seemed to be a chartreuse Boomer lure. I found a few people fishing from the dock around Bear Point and they reported a few small snapper, catfish, blowfish and plenty of jacks and they were all hitting on live shrimp. The boat ramp at Round Island was one of the few places you might consider putting your boat in and fishing close to the shore. I talked to Bob and Linda Banks and they reported that they caught and released a few small trout, ladyfish and jacks. They were fishing with soft plastic baits. The local bridges and the docks along the Ft. Pierce Inlet have been producing some good catches of croakers, black drum and a flounder or two. Try using a small live shrimp and fish it on the bottom. There were a few snook caught in the Inlet and along the docks but it is still hard to find on that is in the slot. Remember that trout season closed on November 1st and will not reopen until January 1st.
OFFSHORE - No offshore repot this week with the seas running from 6 to 16 feet. Last Friday and Saturday we did have a couple of boats go offshore and one brought back a 35 pound wahoo and missed several dolphin in 120 feet of water. The wahoo was caught on a skirted ballyhoo. The other boat that went out had 3 small dolphin -- all under 20 pounds and they were caught in 120 to 150 feet of water.
DOCK FISHING TOURNAMENT - The Dockside Inn & Resort at 1160 Seaway Drive in Ft. Pierce, Florida is hosting a dock fishing tournament on November 16th and 17th. They are having a snook tournament from 9pm on November 16 until 6am on November 17th. The open dock tournament will take place on November 17th from 7am until 2pm. The only catch is that you must be a guest at the Dockside Inn & Resort on those dates. There is a small entry fee and there are prizes for men's. ladies and children's divisions and a complementary BBQ. You can call for more info at 1-800-286-1745.
