Fishing Report for Ft. Pierce, Florida

Capt. Joe Ward
September 2, 2000
Fort Pierce - Saltwater Fishing Report

This wasn't the best week for fishing in our area. Monday and Thursday were the best days with the rest of the week making for hard fishing.

SNOOK - The big news this week was the opening of SNOOK season at 12:01am on September 1st. It has been closed for 3 LONG months. The anglers that went out at midnight did ok. No big snook were reported and the ones that did catch one said that they were from 8 to 15 pounds. Live bait fished on the tide change was the way to go. The Ft. Pierce Inlet, the Turning Basin and around both bridges were the places to fish.

TROUT - The trout fishing has slowed a little but the trout that were caught were of nice size. Most of the action was to the south of Bear Point on the west side of the river. Live pigfish were the bait that the trout preferred.

SNAPPER - Snapper fishing hasn't slowed much with the fish coming from both bridges and weighing in at about 3 pounds. Silver jennie's and live shrimp were the baits to use.
