Good Fall Fishing

Capt. Freddie David
October 3, 2019
Haulover Inlet - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been good to us over the past month. The weather has held up and the humidity has come down. This tells us that fall is here.

Inshore has been banging the past couple weeks. The mullet run is in full force! Every year around this time we have a huge migration of mullet coming from the north and pushing south. Behind them is every predator imaginable. In the schools we have been catching jack crevalle, tarpon, snook, ladyfish, shark and bluefish. These schools have been way inland into small creeks and canals as far out to a couple miles offshore. It is one of my favorite types of fishing seeing acre long school get blasted out of the water.

Offshore fishing has been about as good as it could get for this time of year. There have been gaffer sized mahi under debris and seaweed. They have been on reef out to about 20 miles offshore. These fish have been extremely hungry and ravenous. The swordfish bite has been firing off averaging between 1-3 broadbill per trip. Most of the fish have been on the smaller size but there are also some big girls in the mix.

I haven't spent much time on the reef lately but hear of a good kingfish and barracuda bite. There are also good numbers of sailfish being caught and seen while live baiting with kites as well as mahi, kingfish, tuna, and the occasional wahoo.

Fall is some of my favorite time to fish but unfortunately our slowest time for charters. I will be giving discounted trips until Nov. 15. Please call me or write to hear about or special fall pricing.

Tight lines,

Capt. Fred David
