Hurricane could start " mullet run"

Capt. Jim Hobales
August 24, 2011
Haulover Inlet - Saltwater Fishing Report

082411

I have been slow this week but this is the time of year I love and can't really wait for. It's not the traditional flats fishing or back country fishing trips that we do most of the year it is the "mullet run". This usually will happen sometime in September depending on "Northeasters". The biggest benefit right now is Hurricane Ilene running up the Atlantic Coast, the winds will spin counter clockwise and come out of the north to north west and start the initial push of bait. The positive note on this is the bait is sitting up north in the St. Lucie area, big winds and swells will get them pushing south. Right now we have plenty of Snook and Tarpon around the Inlets so this "mullet run" will be very interesting. The next week or so will be a good time to fish the beaches and inlets for a little bit of everything just look for the black clouds moving along the shoreline.

I'll keep you posted,
