Cold Fishing Action

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz

Burr its cold outside with the recent cold snap the inshore game fish have buried up around muddy bottom and springs that hold warmer water. Red fish have moved more into the creeks and around lime stone bottom that hold heat. Soak live shrimp on a 1/0 to 2/0 circle hook for best action. Also target creeks and coves that have springs close by the springs will have warmer water flowing out. Sea trout are also in the same areas live shrimp or bouncing a 1/8 ounce jig with a gulp shrimp or little john soft plastic in the white, root beer, and water melon red color works great. When the sun gets high and water starts to heat up use a 17MR mirrodine in the 808 color doing soft twitches with the rod tip on a slow retrieve for best action.

Black drum and sheep head are holding in the deeper holes live or dead shrimp on a 1/0 live bait hook will work great you might need to use a small split shot for weight to get down to the bottom. Take some shrimp and rip into small pieces old shrimp works best to chum with. If the drum and sheep head are there you will know pretty fast.

Jack's, lady fish, and mangrove snapper are holding close to the springs they make for some great rod bending action. I like to use a 1/8 ounce jig head with a white little john soft plastic for fast action twitch the jig a little faster then normal and hang on.

Stop into Precision Tackle located in Spring Hill in the WellCare Plaza, Dave will get you ready for your fishing adventure from inshore to offshore and freshwater he has it all.
