Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Fishing Report

Fishing is great in our local inshore and back country waters. Red fish and trout are taking the spot light right now, red fish are schooling along the outside mangrove shorelines and inside creeks and coves. Target structure with good current flow I look for rocks, oyster bars, mangroves, and spartina grass, now when you find a area like that make sure there is one more key sing for reds and that is mullet schools. Red fish love to hang around mullet schools to feed on shrimp, crabs and small bait fish that the mullet stir up. Live shrimp and pin fish are doing the trick for live bait, what I like to do with my live shrimp is to pinch off the tail of the shrimp doing this will prevent the shrimp from spinning and puts scent in the water, I do the same thing for pin fish as well just place your 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook through the tail end of the bait for a longer cast. Top water lures are working as well I like the skitter walk sw08 in the mullet color and white color. Soft plastic bait that also work great for both red fish and trout are Mirr O lure lil jons and Trigger X gold shrimp. Rig the soft plastic baits with a jig head depending on your water depth I use 1/16 ounce to 1/4.Trout are also hanging around the same areas as the red fish and using the same methods as above will do great. Sheepshead and black drum are in the pot holes and springs. Live shrimp with a 1odd hook is the way to go also live fiddler crabs work very good also.
