Fishing And Scalloping

Capt. Josh Fritz
June 30, 2016
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Its Scallop season here along the Nature Coast of Florida and Hernando Beach is a HOT spot for scallops. Scallops are very thick from Bayport to Chassahowitzka in 4 to 8 feet of water. Limit for scallops are 2 gallons pre person but no more then 10 gallons pre boat pre day that is hole scallops in the shell. Make sure you fly the divers down flag so other boaters know you have swimmers in the water for your own safety. Low tide is easiest to get the scallops on my recent scallop trips we have limited out on scallops within 2 hours. When you get your scallops put them right on ice doing this will relax the meat and open the shell.

Fishing is great we are catching trout in 12 feet of water on 1/4 ounce jig heads with little Jon white and root beer soft plastics, drift the grass flats in 12 feet and slow bounce the jigs the trout will thump them on the fall. In the same area we are also catching sea bass, flounder, Spanish mackerel, cobia and sharks. Grouper bite has slowed down some do to the water temperature being hot. Use dead bait to get the small fish happy then drop down a live green back or pin fish. Red fish are holding on the outside points and islands live green backs are my bait of choice fish a good incoming tide for best action.

Book you fishing and or scalloping trip ASAP dates do fill up fast.
