Florida Fly Fishing Expo Announces October
Classes with Bob Closer and Wanda Taylor
The creator of the Clouser Deep Minnow and the first woman Master Casting Instructor will each lead hands-on classes Oct. 10-11 at Plantation on Crystal River.
Crystal River, Florida -- Bob Clouser of Clouser Deep Minnow fame and Wanda Taylor, nationally acclaimed fly casting instructor, will each lead four skill improvement classes at the 2014 Florida Fly Fishing Expo Oct. 10-11, 2014 at Plantation on Crystal River.
The non-profit Florida Council of the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF-FL) sponsors the event. It features more than 50 fly fishing clinics, classes and workshops conducted by noted charter guides, casting instructors, and fly tyers. The Expo also features manufacturer exhibits, on-going fly tying exhibitions, and opportunities to see the latest fly rods and reels, lines, clothing, kayaks and other gear.
Clouser, an internationally respected fly fishing instructor and author, created the Clouser Deep Minnow, the most used, most recognized fly in the world. He is renowned for his broad knowledge and experience in all areas of fly casting.
Clouser's 90-minute workshop at 10:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday is titledHow to Cast Weighted Flies and Lines. His 90-minute afternoon workshop --Tying the Clouser Minnow and More with Bob Clouser -- starts at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Ms Taylor, the first woman to earn Master Casting Instructor certification by the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF), will teach Beginner Casting and Rigging Class for Women on Friday and Saturday morning class at 10:30. Instruction covers how to match fly reel and line to the rod as well as basic casting techniques.
Her 90-minute afternoon class, scheduled at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, isIntermediate Coed Casting. It is for fly fishers who want to take their casting to the next level and her instruction includes how to make five trick casts to catch more fish.
"Hey, Honey"
Taylor, who lives in North Georgia, is the featured speaker at two scheduled Expo meals including the keynote speech at Saturday night's closing banquet. The title of her banquet talk is Hey, Honey, Would You Like to Go Fly Fishing?
She also hosts and speaks at Saturday morning's Women's Breakfast with Wanda at which she will talk about how to get started as a fly fisher, how to become a guide, how to become an instructor, and even how to organize a fly club. "I think her breakfast will be one of the highlights of this year's EXPO," said Ruth Stokes, a director for the Florida Council of the IFFF. "Her goal is to make women independent anglers and she is an excellentrole model for all of us."
