Great Bite Along The Nature Coast

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Chase N' Tails Fishing Charters - Inshore Report -

The fishing here along the Nature Coast is great we are in a transitional period right now as winter is at are door step. As we keep getting cold fronts coming through Florida the water temperature will keep dropping and the inshore fish such as Red fish, Trout, Snook, Sheepshead, Mangrove Snapper, Jacks, and Lady fish will move to the warmer waters. Start to look in the back creeks, coves, rock piles, oyster bars, and all the near by springs that litter the Nature Coast. The trout will school up in the shallow water flats and on oyster bars the way I like to target these fish is with Top water lures with a loud high pitch rattle like a She dog or a Skitter walk, work the lure on the slow side with a few stops on the retrieve, or a Gulp shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head color wise I like a white or new penny. We are doing well on reds around the back bay's and out side oyster bars on a high out going tide. lately we have been also getting a lot of rat red fish on Gulp Shrimp in the same area's most of the reds are in the upper slot and over. A 3" Gulp shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head works great or a cut pin fish and as the water gets colder i will use live shrimp on a 2/0 circle hook most of the red fish are in the upper slot and over 26-30". Snook are on the move to the springs and back coves and creeks I like to use a mirror-lure mirror dean or a white jerk bait rig weedless. Now winter time is sheeps head and black drum time anchor up on a rock pile or a oyster bar and use a number 1 hook with a small piece of shrimp on the bottom, if the water is real clear use a light leader 15lb and a small split shot sheeps head can be tricky to catch I was told by a old salt that you need to hook the fish before they bite the bait as they are easy bait stealer's. Fall/winter time fishing is on fire right now we are catching a lot of trout, reds, snook, jacks, flounder, snapper, lady fish, and pompano all day long so book your self a charter and have a good fun day on the water.
