Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Chase N' Tails Fishing Charters - Fantastic Fishing In Hernando Beach -

Fall fishing on our local flats and back country creeks and bays is FANTASTIC we are in a transitional period right as winter is approaching and water temperature starts to drop making the inshore game fish move into the creeks and near by springs that litter the Nature Coast. As we move into winter start to look around the springs, creeks, coves, and oyster bars a easy way to find red fish is to find the mullet once you find mullet anchor the boat and work the area well with top water plugs, gulp shrimp on a 1/8oz jig head or live shrimp on a 1/0 hook with the tail pinched off for sent.

The trout will school up in larger schools making for some fun action with top water plugs look for the trout in the 1 to 5 feet range around spotty bottom, kelp beds, and pot holes. But when the water temp gets into the mid 60s start to work your way to the creeks, and coves as they will move to find warmer water. Another good rig is a popping cork rig. What you will need to a Paradise Popper 2 to 3 feet of 20lb leader and a 1/8oz jig head with a Gulp Shrimp, throw the rig out and pop it 2 to 3 let it sit just for a few seconds do a 10 count reel a few feet and pop it again.

Start to find sheepshead and black drum on the feeding mode as the water temp drops the best way to fish for these guys is with a live shrimp and a small hook like a 1/0 if the sheep's and black drum are being picky cut a few shrimp up in to pieces to chum them up and use a piece of that for your bait. Sheep head are very good at stealing your bait so keep a tight line and set the hook even on a nibble.
