Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Awesome Fishing Action In Hernando Beach
Fishing in and around Hernando Beach is going off with out a hitch. We have Tarpon in the local waters, cobia on the flats and rock piles, redfish schools all over the place, trout just about every were, and snook on just about every trip.
Tarpon are back and hooks ups are taking place from Hudson to Chazz. Target water depths of 5 to 10 feet, a live pin fish under a cork will draw strikes or a SW11 rapala skitter walk for a early morning surface action. If the tide is high these fish will be closer to shore and on low tide they will be around the tri pod range. Live baits that are great to use are pinfish, lady fish, finger mullet, and crabs. I recommend a 5 odd to 7 odd circle hook and a 60lb leader with a 40 lb power pro main line. Make sure you bow to the king when it jumps so the fish wont throw the hook but most of the time they do.
Redfish are in large schools from 12-25 fish per school. The best bite has been in the middle part of the incoming tide, look around mangroves, oyster bars, and rocks. Live pin fish on a 3/0 circle hook and 30lb leader is the way to go. The size of the reds have been in the upper slot and well over 25-32".
There are still some trout hanging out at the mouths of creeks but most of the schools are in 3 to 6 feet of water. A topwater lure such as a rapala skitter walk or spook jr in the bone color are working. Also a 1/8 to 1/4 oz jig head with a white fluke is producing some nice size trout 15-23".
Snook are just about every place i have fished. Just yesterday my client got a nice 32" snook first thing in the am. Best bait is a pinfish and lure is a mirr o dine 17mr in the green back color.
I got to mention something that is really bothering me. Gary Grubbs is going to make a park, resort, and a 3 mile canal dredge in my fishing hole that I have fished ever sense I was 3 years old, this place is Fillmans Bayou and it is in Aripeka. And for the anglers that fish this area we need to stick together and protest, send emails to the state, call the county- and state to let them know what is going to happen to this pristine fishery in Pasco county. It will destroy the marine estuary for millions of fish that are born here and call this place home. So please help and fight against this build so we can save this great fishery.
