Hernando Beach Fishing & Scalloping

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

July Fishing & Scalloping Report

Fishing is great even though it is very hot out fish are still biting. Early morning and late afternoon/evening is the best time to target the inshore game fish such as red fish, trout, snook, and tarpon.Red fish are on the outer points and rock bars fish the incoming tide for best action, live bait is the best way to get the reds attention green backs and pin fish have been working great. I like to cut the tails off and hook the bait through the tail end for a long cast. Most of the reds are 16" to 33".

The trout are on oyster bars and out deep, target water depth of 8 to 12 feet. A white 3" Gulp shrimp on a 1/4oz jig head has produce some big trout. Inshore you can find trout around oyster beds and rock piles top water lures and gulp shrimp will put fish in the boat. Size of the trout 15 to 23".

Now our main catch during summer is SCALLOPS yes it is scallop season and all ready it has been the best year I have ever seen and I have scallop since I was able to swim. We are limiting out with 10 gallons in 2 hours or less, When you can dive down and pick up 8 to 12 scallops at a time then you will get your catch fast. The scallops are in 4 to 8 feet on grass and spotty bottom, scalloping is easy at low tide. If you would like to book a fishing and or scallop trip give me a call I will show you a great time on the water.
