Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Welcome to spring… Looking at the weatherman today even the worst day fishing is better than what is going on up north of us. Fishing is just starting to pick up. If the government does not get their act together we will have no fish to catch. All I can say is sea trout fishing is terrible in this area compared to years gone by. I wonder if it could be the government sometimes is confused in their thinking. Large Sheephead fish are roaming the rock piles from Hudson to Yankeetown. Trying to catch them is a challenge as the fish are accompanied by hundreds of baitfish. Gag grouper are being caught regularly but again we have to release them seeing the government has a season on them. What is interesting is there are boats out there that can catch them legally… leaving us small charter boats to tell our clients we cannot catch them. Certain charter boats can catch grouper as the government picks which ones can make a living and which boats cannot. Oh well catch and release fishing is fun too. You want to learn fly fishing the salt water, get in touch with me for more info about the local fly fishing club here in Spring Hill.
