Hernando Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz

Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hernando Beach Fishing Report.

Inshore fishing has been great. Red fish are roaming the outer islands and mangrove shorelines, target the reds on a mid incoming tide and first half of the outgoing tide. Live bait is producing the best action, green backs and pin fish free lined with the tail cut off is my go to method for catching red fish. Snook are in the same areas with red fish live green backs rigged the same way just leave the tail on snook like to ambush the bait.

Cobia bite is still strong we are catching them on the near shore rocks and wrecks with live green backs. Anchor up current for the rock putting a chum block out will help bring the cobia in quicker but it will also bring in sharks. Free line a live bait out the back and keep another rod or two ready to cast when the cobia show up.

Gag grouper season is open and we are catching some relay nice gags in shallow water 10 to 12 feet. Start off with dead frozen bait such as thread fins or sardines i like to cut 4 or 5 baits up in small chunks and chum to get the grunts and snappers fired up then cast out a big live pin fish or green back and hold on. Best action been the last hour of the incoming tide and first of the outgoing.

Tarpon are all over the flats, live crabs and soft plastics will work presentation is the key for the silver kings. Just remember if the poon's are going away from you don't cast at them take your time for a head on shot or quartering shot.

Scallop season starts July 1st book your trip asap we can accommodate large parties up to 8 people. We also offer combo fishing and scalloping trips.
