Hernando Fishing Report

Capt. Josh Fritz
September 15, 2017
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Post hurricane Irma fishing is very good, The water clarity is dirty but this will clear up in about a week. Today Friday the 15th of September was our first day back on the water in 6 days. The bait was easy to get with the live well being blacked out by 7am, We left the dock at 7 30 am from Aripeka and had our first snook by 7 45am. It was non stop action for 4 hours catching red fish, snook, trout and baby tarpon. It was a great day back on the water and the fish where hungry.

Snook season is open now till the end of November slot size is 28 to 33 inches. Target snook around mangrove points and swashes, incoming or outgoing tide is producing a good snook bite. live green backs rigged with a 25 pound leader and a 1/0 to 2/0 circle hook is my go to inshore rig. Cast your baits up current allowing the bait to drift into the strike zone.

Red fish are schooled up in good numbers along mangroves and oyster bars, live green backs or small pin fish is the way to go. Incoming tide is producing a better bite for us. Trout are working there way into shallow water 2 to 5 feet, top water plugs and mirro dines are great search baits. Live green backs under a float is also deadly.

Gag grouper action will be on fire come October get your grouper date booked asap.

Chase N Tails Fishing Charters will have two big boats for your comfort and able to accommodate large groups up to 8 people.
