Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Inshore Fishing Report For Hernando County
The winter fishing action is great we are catching our limit of trout and red fish on just about each trip. Trout are still at the top of the list for this month, look for trout in the back pot holes and near by springs. Live shrimp is the best bait to use and I like to rig my shrimp with a 2/0 circle hook and a 20lb leader. Lures that are working for trout are the 17MR mirr o dines in the 808 and 50 color. White jerk baits rig with a 1/8 oz jig head slowly bouncing across the bottom also produces some fat gator trout. The colder the water gets the closer the trout and other game fish will move to the springs. Red fish are also hitting live shrimp the best, look for muddy bottom, rocky shore lines, and close to springs. Keep an eye out for mullet schools that is the key sign that reds are close by. Lures that have been working are the mirr o dines in the same color that I mention above, and trigger X shrimp rig with a 1/16oz jig head. Sheeps head and black drum are also here for the taking look for structure and deep holes with a good current flow chum with frozen shrimp to get the bite hot and use a live shrimp and a small 1/0 hook with a split shoot to keep it on the bottom, make sure you keep a tight line the sheephead are great bait stealers. Iam filming another TV show this Friday with Nature Coast Outdoors with Capt. William Toney I will post again on Friday and let you all know how we do.
