Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in and around Hernando beach is very good, Red fish are holding in there spring and summer spots all ready. Look for them around the outside points and islands with a good water flow and mullet schools, Live bait will get there attention faster than a lure. Pin fish and green backs are my top choice for bait, use a 2/0 to 3/0 circle hook with a 25lb leader no weights just free line the bait into the strike zone and hold on, most of the reds are running in the middle to upper slot 20" to 27". Snook action is really heating up along the mangroves and oyster bars, live green backs rigged the same way for reds will work just fine, fish a moving tide for snook incoming or outgoing for best action. Trout are in the shallow grass flats 1 to 5 feet around spotty and grassy bottom MirrOlure 17MR in the 808 color is deadly to trout or a watermelon red fluke rigged weed less or on a 1/8 ounce jig head is producing big trout. Mackerel are showing up just south of Hernando in 5 to 10 feet so any day they will be taking over the deeper flats and very soon the cobia will be here as well. Spring has sprung and the fishing is about to blow up inshore and offshore with hungry fish. Stop into Precision Tackle and see Dave he will get you ready for the hot fishing action.
