Spring Fishing Action

Capt. Josh Fritz
March 25, 2016
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

March fishing madness is here in full swing. March is a awesome month for fishing inshore and offshore of Hernando beach, I will start inshore. Trout action is HOT in 2 to 6 feet of water target grass flats with sand holes mixed in, the trout will sit in the grass watching the sand holes for bait to pass by and ambush them. Lures have been the go to method for me in the last few weeks, early morning top water plugs work great the rapala skitter walk in the SW08 size seems to be doing better then the old faithful bone spook jr. Colors for the skitter walk have been white, trout, and mullet colors work them slow some times just stop the retrieve for a few seconds. When the sun gets high switch to a 17MR mirrodine in the 808 color for a high water bait or soft plastic flukes rigged weed less with a 4/0 skip gap hook, colors that work great are white, watermelon red, red and gold in saltwater assassins. Red fish are schooling up now in decent pods 6 to 12 fish most are in the middle to upper slot, bait has been the best for my clients shrimp, pin fish and green backs fish the middle to high of the incoming tide. Snook are holding around mangrove points, cuts, and sea walls live green backs are the best bait to catch them fish a moving water in or out they don't really care. Some pompano have been caught while trout fishing in 2 to 4 feet of water. Offshore the mackerel bite is off the hook fish 8 to 15 feet for best action a white little john soft plastic rigged with a 1/4 ounce jig head work the jig at different speeds till you find out what they want. Cobia have arrived I seen 2 cobia last week on a sting ray in 4 feet of water so keep a stout rod rigged and ready a soft plastic fluke or live bait is a sure bet. Stop into Precision tackle for all your fishing needs.

Book your fishing trip asap.
