Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report
Spring Fishing is in full swing here along the Nature Coast of Florida.
Redfish action is very good along our mangrove shorelines and outer islands. Look for lime rock bottom, oyster bars around the islands that hard bottom will hold mullet, shrimp, crabs, and bait fish. Incoming tide is producing the best action with live green backs and pin fish for bait. I like to use two different rigs for red fish, the first one is just free lined with a 20 to 30 pound leader and a 2/0 circle hook, and the second rig is the same just add a cigar float, the float is a great way to keep your bait out of the rocks and moving naturally with the current. Snook fishing is off the hook with many slot fish and over slot fish being caught 24 to 36 inches. High incoming or outgoing tide is producing a great snook bite. Big live green backs rigged with a 3/0 circle hook and 30 to 40 pound leader is the way to go. Trout action is very good also. Target the shallow flats and lime rock bottom live green backs under a float is a great rig or using a 1/8 ounce jig head and a white, rootbeer, or clear red/gold flake are my 3 favorites. Cobia are here and ready to eat, work the shallow flats 2 to 5 feet deep look for the big sting rays the cobia will be right on the backs or close behind. A stout rod with 30 pound power pro and a 40 to 50 pound leader rigged with a live bait or soft plastic is all you need.
