Spring Fishing Action

Capt. Josh Fritz
April 20, 2017
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

I love this time of year the weather is great and the fishing is off the hook. Inshore game fish are hungry and ready to eat. Red fish are holding around the outer islands and mangrove shorelines, live green backs have been the go to bait of choice with pin fish as my fallow up bait. Target these areas on a higher tide last hour or so of the incoming or first of the outgoing tide.
Snook are all over the same areas and around points with a good current flow. Incoming or outgoing tide is producing a good snook bite with live green backs. Cobia are all over the flats and near shore rocks we have been catching them on live green backs and white flukes rigged with a 1/8 ounce jig head. Start looking in 3 to 5 feet around the grass flats and sand flats the cobia will follow sting rays. Offshore the cobia are all over the rocks and reefs use a chum block and live green backs for some great cobia action.Tarpon will be here very soon keep your eye out.
