Summer Fishing and Scalloping

Capt. Josh Fritz
July 26, 2016
Hernando Beach - Saltwater Fishing Report

Summer fishing action is good, we have a good trout bite right now in the deeper grass flats 8 to 12 feet of water. On my trips we use a 1/4 ounce jig head with a little john soft plastic bait in white or rootbeer color. Slow bounce the jig across the bottom with a light rod tip twitch the trout will hit the bait on the fall. Red fish are hanging around the outside points and rocks live bait has been the go to method, green backs and pin fish rigged with a 25 pound leader and 1/0 circle hook will do the job. Cobia are holding around the nearshore rocks and reefs along with some Spanish mackerel. Live bait for the cobia and white soft plastics for the macks. Scallops are very very good this year, we are getting our limit in 1 to 2 hours in 4 to 6 feet of water. Scalloping is a great way to spend time with family and friends will all kinds of fish, star fish, crabs and cool plants and sea life while scalloping. Book your fishing and or scalloping adventure ASAP dates fill up fast.
