Homosassa "Fall" Fishing!!!

Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Homosassa "FALL" Fishing!!!

As we enter into our "Slow Season", after Scalloping Season here on Florida's Nature Coast anything else has to be considered slow! First, I'd like to thank everyone who made this our most successful Scallop Season ever!! As most of you know we were booking two Scallop trips per day each morning and afternoon, from 7 to 11 AM, and again from Noon to 4 PM, and we will continue to do that again next season. We're looking forward to seeing you all again next year, it really is a great family tradition, please remember to reserve your dates early for another exciting "Underwater Easter Egg Hunt"!!!

October has always been one of my favorite months to fish here in Homosassa, the weather starts to change and the water temperature starts to drop. So it's not so brutal being on the water all day and the fish start to move and feed more aggressively as the water temperature cools. Believing in the theory of what goes up must come down we'll be looking for the schools of predators raiding the bait as the head to the South towards their wintering grounds. Plus without the fleet of scallop boats we'll be able to fish the lush grass flats for Speckled Sea Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Sea Bass and Mangrove Snapper. Try the Trout Bar, South of Chassahowitzka Point, float a Berkeley Gulp behind a Cajun Thunder and get your limit of "Gator" Trout. We had days this past Spring where we were catching somewhere between 50 to 80 fish per charter with as many as 14 different species! What goes up must come down!! The cooler weather and water also brings the annual invasion of Black Drum. These large fish will test any angler's endurance and pressure any light tackle equipment. Though, I still get most excited about the massive schools of "Bull Redfish" that arrive from offshore every fall. We've had days in past year's where for hours we've caught fish that were all over the 27 inch slot limit! It's actually been hard to catch a keeper Red!! On a recent charter with Amy Boyd and Terry Haas from the Tampa Bay area we caught 9 Redfish using cut pinfish, ladyfish and live shrimp as bait. Terry caught the fish of the day a nice 26 inch Redfish with multiple spots! Try fishing the outside edges of the islands and mangrove lined shorelines on an incoming tide. The St. Martin Keys, North of the Homosassa channel are always a popular starting point for fall Reds.

If you've never fished here in Old Homosassa we offer an "Introductory Special", the first time you fish with us the cost is only $299.00, for a full day charter for one to four anglers. That price includes everything except food, beverages and gratuity. With four anglers that's only $75.00, each! For additional details or to reserve you date, please visit our web-site at www.HomosassaRedfish.com. As we only have a few dates still available in October don't wait, book your charter now. Take a spouse, child, friend or your entire family on an exciting outdoor adventure here in our tiny fishing village and experience Florida like it was hundreds of years ago! Come bend a rod with us in one of Florida's last best kept secrets, the beautiful and productive waters of Homosassa and Chassahowitzka!! Let's go CATCHING!!!
