Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report
Dog Days of Summer are upon us. I am kicking back, though. Taking it easy and careful. Swimming a lot, still catching fish if you can stand or like the hot weather.
At a turtle's pace, like the scallops, not many around on the flats of Homosassa. Most boats were off Mangrove Point about a mile or two in 3 to 5 feet of water.
Fishing Report: Last Friday it was so damn hot and humid, we almost caught the bear. Sweat was pouring off us. We managed only two redfish; one was a fraction under the upper slot keeper size, 27-inches.
Saturday was better; we managed our limit plus one of redfish. Live Pinfish worked better than cut ladyfish or cut mullet or shrimp. Later that day, we went north and found hundreds of mackerel feeding on small glass minnows. Also, jack crevalle up to 3 pounds.
Then bluefish up to 3-pounds were attacking our artificials until we moved out in search of trout. No good here, but not much time spent trying. With snook season opening up on Sept. 1, I thought about going out to search for one, but heck, the visibility was overcast and that means no Vis.
