Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past couple weeks have been great, the Gag grouper bite offshore and inshore has been on fire! We are catching lots of our grouper on plugs, the Rapalla X-Rap 20 has been by go to plug in 20-35 feet of water, and the metal lip 18 has been great on the shallow water rocks. Most of the rocks in 20-40 foot have been loaded with grouper and they are biting on just about anything you want to drop down there, thread-fins have been working great for me, as well as live pinfish. We have been limiting out early every trip offshore, usually before 12 and trying to pick up other species such as snapper, grunts, and kings with some success.
Inshore fishing has been great, the snapper are loaded in the springs, and there are Snook, trout, and redfish coming up in the river in numbers. The night fishing for Snook has been great after the cold fronts come through and they move up river where the water is warmer. Try throwing the Un Fair Greenie or the Un-Fair Stick Minnow, both have been producing some solid Snook! Also try the rocky points in the rivers and creeks for Redfish, a simple shrimp on a jig head has been tricking the reds very nicely.
Don't forget that Gag grouper will close December 3rd so get out there and fill up the freezer before it is too late, we wont be able to keep Gags till July of next year, and it looks like the red grouper season will be messed up this year, they already brought the limit down to 2 per person, and they may close it even longer next year. So get some grouper while you still can!

Homosassa Fishing Forecast:

Fishing will be heating up in the main rivers of the area as the water gets colder, and the sheepshead will be spawning here soon so the shallow water rocks will be loaded here soon!
Target Species:

grouper red fish trout
