Homosassa - Saltwater Fishing Report

Spring Has Sprung
In general Homosassa fishing has been very good since the warmer weather caused the water temperatures to rise. This helps bring in more bait. Southwest winds are my favorite and with three in a row this time a year will bring in the tarpon. Today is day three.
Trout fishing in shallow water has nearly peaked with fewer cold fronts and the full moon, but limits are still coming daily for Capt. Charlie Harris and his clients. Capt. John Bazo has been enjoying his new Ranger Cayman and his two clients caught a nice limit of big trout and had to release several over 20 inches.
All up and down the west coast charter captains are telling me that the big trout are in shallow water like 1-3 feet and the smaller ones are in 6 to 8 foot depths.
Jerk Baits, Top Dogs and Tsunamis are taking the big trout while average sizes fall prey to Cajun Thunder rigs.
Redfish are cooperating as we have had nice ones up to 27 inches. They are starting to be more abundant along points of mangrove islands.
Grouper are chewing very well in 30 foot depths and most are coming in by trolling big lipped lures.
Still a few mackerel around and will be all summer as a few blue fish are also being caught.
Get out there and go fishing if you can because it is goooood fer ya!
